Giving Back with Zest: Our Experience at Lemons of Love
In the heart of every community, there are stories of hope, resilience, and the power of giving. Our team had the privilege of being part of such a story when we recently volunteered at Lemons of Love, a remarkable organization that has been touching lives since 2014.
About Lemons of Love
Lemons of Love’s journey began with a personal battle. In 2014, Jill Swanson faced the challenge of colon cancer. During her chemotherapy, a friend’s small gift sparked a big idea. This gift, a simple yet thoughtful gesture, contained items to aid Jill through her treatment. This act of kindness planted the seed for what would become Lemons of Love.
Today, Lemons of Love is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated to providing support and comfort to those undergoing cancer treatment. Their care packages, thoughtfully curated with items to ease the treatment journey, are delivered to hospitals and oncology centers. Additionally, personalized care packages are available for individuals through donations.
Our Volunteering Experience
Our task was to help pack the support bags. Each item we placed in the bags carried with it a message of hope and care. It was a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can have a tremendous impact on someone’s life.

Fates, Bodily, & Parker: Committed to Making a Difference on the Illinois CPA Society’s “Day of Service”
On Friday, September 22nd, 2023, our employees at Fates, Bodily, & Parker (FBP) took a break from their routine to participate in the “Day of Service” organized by the Illinois CPA Society. Their destination? The heartwarming Fill a Heart 4 Kids organization.
The “Day of Service” is an annual event that encourages Illinois Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) to contribute to their local communities through volunteer work. This year, Fates, Bodily, & Parker embraced the opportunity to participate and chose to support Fill a Heart 4 Kids, an organization known for its dedication to improving the lives of children in need.
Fill a Heart 4 Kids is a nonprofit organization that focuses on providing support and resources to children and teens who have experienced homelessness or are in foster care. Their mission is to ensure that no child feels forgotten or unloved, and they achieve this by offering a range of programs.
Our employees worked a double session, packaging coats and “Boo Hands”, a Trick or Treat package for those that may not be able to take part in the festivities.

Giving Back While Having Fun: Fates, Bodily & Parker Cleans Up Busse Woods Forest Preserve
Staff from Fates, Bodily & Parker recently banded together for a rewarding day of community service at Busse Woods in Rolling Meadows, IL. Our “Litter Obliterators” group of 16 headed out armed with gloves, garbage bags, and a shared mission to help clean up and beautify this treasured local forest preserve.
After a quick safety briefing and eco-friendly trash picking tutorial, we fanned out in small teams across picnic areas, trails, and other high-traffic zones of the woods. Working our way through the sunny glades and shady groves, we quickly filled bag after bag with discarded waste.
In just three short hours, our efforts yielded over 10 bags of litter gathered up and ready for proper disposal. Our volunteers also got some fresh air, exercise, and quality time with colleagues and friends while accomplishing something positive for our community. It was a rewarding experience that allowed us to meet our corporate social responsibility goals while also having a great time.
We celebrated with lunch at Fat Rosie’s. A perfect end to a great day.

A special thanks to SCARCE and the DuPage County Sheriff’s SWAP teams for their logistical support including boxing and distributing the meals to the community.
CPA Day of Service – Feed My Starving Children
Fates, Bodily & Parker participated in the CPA Day of Service by volunteering with Feed My Starving Children, a non-profit dedicated to ending starvation and malnutrition, box their MannaPacks for distribution. Each MannaPack is a meal “developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement nutritional needs and reduce problems with malnutrition.”
At this packing event, volunteers packed 69 cases, the equivalent of 19,409 meals. The meals will be distributed to those in need around the globe.
This is the second time the firm has volunteered with Feed My Children and the team looks forward to future opportunities to help this fantastic organization.
